Storytelling: A mommy and son's carnival night!
As I sit by the window being fooled by the sunlight I know many of us are hoping for long summer days. I love winter, when it is snow covered, being a Colorado to Pennsylvania transplant. But, something we never had in Colorado was all of the small Firehouse carnivals that are quintessential in this are. I wanted to share a Carnival session from last summer to remind us all of warm days, sticky treats and sweaty sweet hugs from little ones.
I love when clients I met through mini sessions reach out to have more work done. I was so happy to hear from mama Paige who wanted to try a documentary session! It meant that not only did I get to show someone what a documentary session can be, but, I get to know a wonderful person a little bit better.
As we both drove towards the Reese Fire Company to get our carnival on, I saw some ‘Dorothy, we aren't in Kansas’ style clouds forming around us. Yikes. Both me and Paige were darn determined to get this session done so we agreed to become Weather Channel style storm watchers and see what would happen. We were rewarded, not with one, but TWO rainbows. Amazing. Paige and her little man Miles were ready to ride, game and snack away and I was ready to capture this action. Miles was super brave!
My favorite moment of the whole session was when this mom beamed at me and said that she was so happy she did not have to have her cell phone out! That is what were are here for people! These crazy documentary photographers are here for YOU. To keep you living in this minute, and the next. To let you feel each sticky hand in yours, not a cell phone case. To make it so you have room for dollar bills and tickets in your back pocket! These images are dreamy and the glow is not just sunset, it is little boy enjoying some ‘just me and mom’ joy. If you could bottle that you could run carnival rides for years on that kind of joy! Thank you for allowing me on your mommy and me adventure!
