Birth & Fresh 48: Welcome Vivian LaRue

Birth & Fresh 48: Welcome Vivian LaRue

Birth. It is the start of a new life for the baby and for the parents. I remember walking in to have my first child, then my second and being overwhelmed by the feeling of transformation I was actually taking part in. You wait 9 months (lets be real here, it’s more than 9 months) and finally when the moment arrives you feel like you are participating in something so big and miraculous it must not be real. This is just a movie. You can almost get that third person viewer experience. Often in birth, even when you are in control, there is a sense that things are just happening to you. Then there is the moment when you are the only one in control, guiding your new child into the world yourself.

I was honored to be able to photograph this incredible process for two people who I consider more than past clients but good friends. When I got the call that it was time, a little early, but time, I was ready to drop everything and get there.

Tara and Brett were calm and collected when I arrived, having just finished a game of Uno that she informed me they did not let her win, despite being in active labor! She spent some time Face Timing her sister who was out of the country. Then, as calmly as she had done everything else, she prepared to have a baby!

Let me just say, my memories of my labors are a hot mess. I was a mess. I cursed like a sailor. But this Mama was balanced and determined. In what seemed like minutes baby was there! For a first time mom (for any mom) she crushed it! After all that, she looked ethereal, that new mom glow is waaaay better than the pregnancy glow they keep saying exists.

Miss Vivian LaRue arrived at 2:02, weighing 7lbs perfectly, 19 inches long.

I returned the next day for a Fresh 48 session. If it was possible, baby was looking even more adorable! She got her first taste of fashion. Lucky for me this sweet babe was asleep and super cooperative during her photoshoot.

I really want to thank Tara and Brett for allowing me to share one of the most amazing days of their lives with me. Choosing to have birth photography done means you can always have the sweetest memories of moments you may otherwise forget. It also mean that you allow a photographer to share your space during a very private time. While I am thanking people, Carroll Hospital Center was more than welcoming to me. Staff, including the Doctor, actually asked if they needed to move for me to get any images!!?? Wow! I cannot speak for momma but I felt the patient and baby centered vibe was super strong there.

If you are looking for more squishy baby goodness check out the images below. If you are considering having a Fresh 48 session please reach out to me, I am working to create a full calendar this summer.

Happy One Week Vivian!
